Summary: This two-day academy is designed as an expanded, in-depth workshop to allow for further investigation of the following concepts:
What's wrong with
using the TEKS as a district curriculum? Why
aren't they sufficient?
How do you use the TEKS as a framework for developing district-specific
curriculum?
What are some processes for developing district-specific curriculum
within the TEKS framework? How do you realistically produce
curriculum documents that teachers will really use?
What really is "alignment" and what is the rationale for and the
relationship among: vertical alignment, horizontal alignment,
instructional alignment, TAKS alignment, resource alignment, and
professional development alignment?
Can teachers write curriculum?
How long does it take to develop a curriculum that is aligned in all
its dimensions and what are the components of that process?
John Crain has been an elementary, middle school and high school principal and has worked as an associate executive director at Region 17, ESC. As assisitant superintendent for curriculum and instruction for the Highland Park ISD, his leadership proved to be invaluable. He made a difference for students and teachers as he led the district through the process of curriculum development and alignment. He was also instrumental in preparing the district for the recently implemented testing standards. He is now an educational consultant.
Who Should Attend: Curriculum directors, administrators and principals.
