Differentiating instruction appears to hold the answer to delivering instruction to meet the needs of all students. Studying the concept and agreeing with the philosophy of differentiating instruction are just part of the journey. Designing, implementation and monitoring district-wide processes may be the most difficult and neglected part of the journey. This session will explore various models of differentiation and the steps to a district-wide implementation plan.
The session will be developed around the following principles:
• Differentiation models must be aligned with the philosophy of the district.
• Teacher training is critical to successful implementation of differentiation.
• Differentiation and intervention are not the same models and serve different purposes.
• A district–wide implementation plan enhances the implementation process.

Vonita White has twenty years of work in curriculum and instruction. She has observed teachers and principals grow professionally as they have implemented new instructional models. She believes that the differentiation of instruction model provides a district with a tool to develop lessons that match the learning needs of students. However, the implementation of differentiation often brings challenges that are very difficult to manage, and thus differentiation strategies are essential to share.
