On the Brink of Success in Elementary Science
Texas has given clear and concise directions for elementary science with the implementation of the TEKS in 1998 and TAKS in 2003-05. The directives these tools provide will help make decisions based on the TAKS data, and aid in the design of elementary science instructional strategies. The strategies will engage student learning through quality elementary science instruction at the depth and complexity required by the State; move the students from 3-dimensional hands-on to 2-dimensional performance; and promote teacher confidence in the sciences.
This workshop will help apply
science teaching strategies to
aligned curriculum objectives in order to improve student performance.

Successful Instructional Math Strategies For Students
Students must
learn mathematics with
understanding, actively building new knowledge from experiences and
prior knowledge.
The participants
will be given the
opportunity to work cooperatively in developing mathematical concepts
concretely to build understanding and then abstractly to apply
information for problem solving. This strategy will assist
teachers in addressing the unique learning styles of many students in
their classroom. The participants will be given opportunities to
explore mathematical relationships, develop skills and communicate
their ideas through multiple representations.
