- Geometric and Algebraic Reasoning
- Reading and Reasoning in Mathematics
- Developing and Using Effective Questioning Strategies
Participants will be actively engaged in hands-on activities that illustrate how these topics may be addressed in the classroom and how they affect students' success with understanding the TEKS and success on TAKS.
Mathematics vocabulary development and reading strategies applicable for use in the math classroom will be shared along with research which specifically addresses the progression and development of the geometric levels of thought. The algebra addressed will be grade level appropriate and highlight how multiple representations is treated on TAKS and provide activities and strategies that facilitate algebraic reasoning.
How to enhance students' ability to think and reason critically through the development and use of questioning will highlight the Bloom's levels of cognitive skills and how this also affects students' success on TAKS.
Beatrice Moore Luchin is an outstanding teacher who genuinely cares about children and is passionate about the teaching of mathematics. Participants' comments:
By far, the best teacher workshop I've been to yet.
Awesome! It helped me to understand how to approach algebraic and geometric reasoning at a level that more children will understand.
Lots of useful ideas to share with teachers - great analysis of TAKS questions.
Why couldn't you have been my math teacher in high school? I might be an engineer today!!!
